What causes psoriasis?

The cause of psoriasis is still unknown. Psoriasis is considered as a multifactorial disease which develops in genetically predisposed people under the influence of certain triggering factors from the environment.

Which are the triggering factors responsible for the onset of psoriasis?

Emotional stress; Streptococcal infections of the upper respiratory tract which are responsible for the guttate form of the disease in children; Different types of trauma – scratches, bites, burns; Drugs – systemic corticosteroids, beta-blockers, synthetic antimalarials, ACE-inhibitors, lithium, interferons, tetracyclines, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs; Alcohol; Smoking.

Is psoriasis contagious?

No. This is a frequently asked question and people’s frustration is common. Psoriasis is not an infectious disease and non-contagious.

Is psoriasis a curable disease?

Psoriasis is incurable disease. It has a chronic course with periods of remissions and exacerbations. It should be treated either in the periods of exacerbations and in the periods of remissions. The main therapeutic purpose is to achieve a long-term remission and improvement of the quality of life of patients.
